Warning! Boredom can kill you!
Picture a child of eight. “I’m bored. There’s nothing to doooooo . . . ,” she whines to her mother. “You’re not going to die,” replies her mother.
Do you remember, as a child, the almost physical pain when you were bored? And some adult told you that being bored won’t kill you?
Well, now you’re the adult and probably repeat the same line, “boredom won’t kill you” . . . right? But are you sure about that? What if the adults of the world are wrong? What if you really can die from being bored?.
Please don't read this . . .
Think about it: Your business is your life when you’re a small business, freelancer or entrepreneur. And boring advertising copy is like a skunk coming to a picnic. You might as well hang up a sign saying “Don’t Read This.”
In truth, boring copy is a whole lot worse than a “Don’t Read This” sign because asking you not to read this made you curious enough to do it anyway.
You have to sizzle to survive.
You have only 8-seconds to dazzle your potential customer. The average goldfish has a one-second longer attention span than today’s average adult.
Most of your website visitors read only 28% of your words, at most.
- Eight out of 10 people will only read your headlines.
You may be one of the 59% of businesses hoping your website will get you enough clients and customers so you can survive another month.
Consider this: Your web design and your copywriting have to grab your visitors by the eyeballs and tell them a spellbinding story or you’ve lost them for good.
Know this for certain: Boring is lethal.
Maybe you should take it personally.
You’re probably already aware that some visitors hit your website and bounce off like a tennis ball. You don’t take this personally because you’re only looking at numbers and percentages when you read your website reports.
But what if the same thing happened to you at a party? Three out of five people stop, look you over, then walk twenty-five feet away and immediately jump into a lively conversation with someone else. You’d be looking for a mirror and a breath mint to see what’s wrong with you.
I partnered with Eric to redesign my website. His was the role of copy-editing for this project, starting from the text on an original page I had created for by business. He asked pertinent questions in an effort to understand my business. He was patient and thorough. He worked hard to make my message accurate and clear and to my standards. He nailed it. –Derek W.
What if you could get them to stay a while?
Imagine what your small business would do if these real people stuck around to talk to you? Would it mean you survive instead of going broke? Or would it be the difference between scratching for crumbs vs. having new clients and customers lining up to do business with you?
Good copywriting will rocket your business to success. You’ll see your story sizzle. Your customers and clients crave stories that sizzle. They pay attention to the sizzle. The sizzle sells.
