Do you fail when you try to master your habits?
You’ve seen the blog post and Facebook ads. You hear how you have to change your mindset to “Think and Grow Rich.” You can try NLP and self-hypnosis. Or maybe you’re meditating and writing positive affirmations. And I’m sure you’ve heard tons of other come-ons telling you how to break bad habits and create new ones.
Are you changing at all?
If you’re like me you’ve tried one method after another. You’ve read books, listened to podcasts and webinars. And you’ve taken the bait sometimes. You paid for the book or mastermind group or “inner circle” group or seminar or video series. But have you changed your life or business?
But you still feel something missing
Someone has a secret key. You just know it in your gut. And if you can find it everything will click into place. You’ll get the kind of life you dream about. All you need is to find the right guru or mindset formula. But you know it’s like looking for an honest politician.
The truth is . . .
There is no secret key
But most of the stuff you see about mindset and motivation is bullshit.
- Motivation is a finite resource. Your willpower will wear out before you make real and lasting change.
- Mindset relies on motivation.
- Your habits drive 95% of your decisions. You live on autopilot.
- Your habits have a chemical component your body is addicted to.
- Your body fights against you when you try to change your mindset.
Don’t panic. That doesn’t mean you’re doomed to stay stuck where you are. It means you try something different.
I found success
No. I didn’t take the red pill and wake up brand new. But I’m making progress now. I’m not stuck any more.
And I’ve been asking myself why it’s taken 20 years? I think I was more messed up than I thought. Or perhaps a slow learner. They say the teacher only appears when the student is ready. I guess I wasn’t ready until now.
What do you get from all this?
Things are going to change here. I’m still going to talk about small business and being an entrepreneur. You’ll find advice about being the best you can be in business. You have to do the work in your business and work on your business. Sales, marketing, planning, money management, growth strategies: you have to stay on top of all of these and more.
You limit your business if you don’t work on you psyche
You’ve felt this in your gut. You may not be a personal growth junkie like I was. But you likely tell yourself, “I should make time to work on my psyche.” Your business is you when you’re the boss and owner. What’s inside you shows up in your business, both your strengths and weaknesses.
What this means for you
You may have noticed my site is now Inside Out Small Business Success. You need more than the entrepreneur nuts and bolts tool kit for long-term success. Your inner world drives your business and your life. And your subconscious limits and blind spots will choke off your success.
My wife and I have a consistent 6-figure business. We are successfully self-employed for 25 years. But I see how much better off we would be if I’d had a healthy psyche.
Join me in the quest
I will share here what I’ve learned and where I’m headed. I will touch on spiritual principles. Most people will say I’m Christian in my approach. And my Christian friends might say I’ve off the rails into New Age woo-woo. I grew up speaking religious Christian language. According to my wife I still need work to eliminate the last remnants of it.
The bottom line is I’m looking for what works.
What’s your next step?
Join my email list. I’ll be writing about what works for me and others. And you won’t find a bunch of pop-psychobabble. Nobody has time for that.
